VOLCANOES10/11/2018 Volcanoes are becoming more and more strange to us everytime we discover something new about them. Volcanoes are the main cause to the development of new land masses. The world wouldn't be the same at all if volcanoes never existed. As impossible as it seems, volcanoes can have very useful life supporting abilities. But all that aside they can also bring great danger and destruction. A prime example of this is the Mount St. Helens eruption of 1980. 57 people met their fate that day along with over 200 homes and 185 miles of road damage. The eruption was so powerful that is completely blew off the peak of the mountain. Over 1,300 feet of height was lost. Too this day the land is still healing but with a few perminate altures. YELLOWSTONENow that you have a basic understanding of one of the most powerful eruptions in history, let's move on to a more "current, happening as we speak" issue. On the surface yellowstone is covered with a beautiful photogenic landscape attracting thousands of tourists a year. But the park is hiding a great danger just a few miles underneath. A massive pocket of magma miles across is rising and causing the land to swell. Yellowstone national park is a massive supervolcano that has awakened once more, frightening the public. Recent research has indicated that the volcano is causing the hot springs, in the area, water temperature to rise. Fissures and cracks are showing up on the land surface in the park. Thus leading to the theory that the land is rising with little resistance. These new and recent occurrences are causing light concern in the public, making the park lose a little money from a light decline in tourists numbers.
